RBTA
An Uplifting Brand For Local Traders
A new brand identity, design system and website for the Richmond Bridge Traders Association, a community of traders and business owners stretching between Cambridge Park and Richmond Bridge in the London Borough of Richmond. The new visual language is a careful balance of design, colour and imagery to reflect local heritage and modern community.
The Setup
Branding is always an interesting exercise, no matter the industry, but creating a brand for a community of real local business owners comes with an extra sense of purpose and a bit of added responsibility, especially in the current challenging climate for high streets. The RBTA came to us with a brief to create a new identity and website that could focus as both a local services directory for residents & visitors and as a membership hub for the traders to promote their businesses. The brief was also driven by the 250th anniversary of Richmond Bridge, the oldest surviving Thames bridge in London.
The Delivery
The new brand is a confident identity rooted in local heritage. It plays with key architectural elements of Richmond Bridge an the historic signage in and around the area, giving it a look that is modern, distinctive and instantly recognisable. The name, brand and location are so intrinsically connected to Richmond Bridge that making it the central focus seemed the natural approach to develop for a simple and grounded design language. If you’ve ever been to Richmond you’ll know it’s a historic London borough with one foot in the countryside, so it seemed a perfect fit when we were building the colour palette. We really wanted to draw on the blues and greens of the area's river and surrounding parks and greenery, reinforcing the project’s connection to local landscape and its sense of place.
