Full Colour Flavour From Africa
Mangrove supply a huge range of high-quality, traditional ingredients from across the tropics. We created a playful new brand identity and designed a bold, colourful range of packaging that perfectly showcases their vibrant flavours and West African heritage.
The Setup
When the Mangrove team first approached us, their food packaging looked a little old fashioned and the product design varied wildly. With a plan to push into new markets and to dramatically expand the range, it was time to start again with a new brand and a strong design language that could flex across an endless number of products.
The Delivery
The end result is a food range that has strong cultural heritage, invoking the colours and funky street vibe brought about by the economic boom of 1970s Lagos. This was coupled with playful visuals and typography without ever needing to lean into overused African pattern work. The new brand has a cheeky elephant hidden in between the G and R of the logo (they really do live in mangrove swamps). We also introduced a new mangrove root background pattern that brings consistency and structure to the range as a core design element no matter the product or colour set.
